*Art Gallery Edward Lear

On the northern side of the cultural center, on the second floor of the building, very near the historical center of the city, you can visit the gallery of contemporaneous art “edward lear.” The edward lear art gallery is located on rruga antipatrea road directly across the street from the historic district mangalemi and close to the 3-way intersection with bulevardi republika and shetitorja osumi roads.
The “Edward Lear” art gallery is one of the best galleries the country and exhibits works of visual arts, different artistic techniques, and directions. The galleryhas four exhibition rooms, a surface area of 200 m2 and good technical conditions. Itis named after the european artist edward lear who spread the image and the name of berat all over the world.the gallery of art “edward lear” has a rich permanent collection of 140 works of art from famous contemporary artists, foreign and local.

The gallery is open for visitors:
Tuesday through sunday 9:00 to 14:00.

*Cultural Center

The Palace of Culture, “Margarita Tutulani” was completed on September 13th 1960. It holds the name of one of the city’s martyrs who fell during the Second World War, Margarita Tutulani, who was executed at a young age by the Italians, becoming a martyr to liberty and symbol of the love for the homeland and human ideals.
The Palace of Culture, during the communist period, served as an educative, cultural, information center for propaganda. The theater has held performances of professional theater, Marionette Theater, and the city’s variety show. At the same time, the government organized massive cultural activities for the participation of the workers or pupils.
In cultural center develop tradicional concert.
After the 1990, and the fall of the communist system, the palace of culture was transformed into a cultural center, where today it offers shows, spectacles, and concerts

*The National Iconographic Museum ONUFRI

Museum Onufri is one of the mostly sights in the town. There you will find a great number of icons by the great Albanian medievalmaster Onufri and his son Nikolla and other painters. The museum was first opened in 1986. St. Mary’s Church was built in the century on the foundations of another church of the 10th century. It has a lot of decorations, which include figures of animals, Saint Nicholas, Saint Gerorge and Saint Basil. Its magnificent iconostasis is of elaborately carved walnut wood plated in gold, and it was made in 1806 by a master from Berat called Stephen.

The museum has three rooms:

-The central Rom: Across its entrance you will see one of the most beautiful icons by Onufri, showing Saint Mary holding baby Jesus in her right arm, an exception from all iconographic art canons. Another icons is by the entrence showing two warrior saints kneeling. Two other beautiful icons used in liturgy and cover are shown in the hall.

-Room2: It has a lot of icons. Here you will see the icon that shows the Mass of Candles. Another important icon is one showing the Virgin Mary, dating from the 17th century. Two other beautiful icons show Saint Michael and Saint Geroge.

-The upper room: You can reach this all by climbing a flight of wooden steps. The most beautiful icons include the one showing Saint Nicholas and other one showing the fortress and a view of the medieval town of Berat, painted by the masters Chetiri.

*The Etnographic Museum
The Etnographic Museum is located on the lower face of the hiull, on the right of the road to the Fortress. It is situated in a atypical house of Berat, dating from late 18th. The building has twoo floors and an open veranda. On the gound of floor is the archaeological pavilion, a section of a mock medieval market, a silver smith and the architectural pavilion. On the first floor there is a reconstructed worshop, a bedroom, a kitchen and a reception room with vintagefurniture. The building itself, the museum exhibition and the housing complex surrounding it are proof pf an interesting and rich ethnographic culture.
